Five Reasons Why You Should Think About Moving To Alberta
Whether you are considering moving to Alberta or have already decided to move, Calgary may be the city for you, after all it is the fifth most liveable city in the world.
- There Are many job opportunities
Calgary is in third place in the world in search of work. If you’re an entrepreneur at heart and thinking of setting up your own business, you’ll be in good company. Calgary has the second highest concentration of self-employed among the major cities in Canada. Our workforce is young, diverse and educated. We have the highest percentage of STEM graduates and the largest number of earth scientists and engineers in any major Canadian city. We are also Canada’s leading marketplace for artistic talent.
- There is property available and it’s affordable
Calgary is affordable and has a higher vacancy rate than most major cities in Canada. Compared to Vancouver and Toronto, rental apartments and condos are cheaper in the city, giving people more shopping options. There are options for families throughout the city, with many single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes for sale and for rent in the suburbs available at reasonable prices.
- The cost of living is lower
Calgary ranks second in terms of cost of living among 39 North American cities (Mercer Cost of Living, 2018). Travel time is less than other major cities in Canada. Also, Alberta is the only province where there is no sales tax. Albertans have some of the lowest provincial, personal income, and inheritance taxes in the country, and Albertans enjoy free provincial health insurance. Find out more about how Calgary is different from other major cities in Canada.
- There is always something wonderful happening
With over 270 annual events, you’ll find plenty of fun, interesting, and family-friendly things to do throughout the year. And that’s not including all of our usual attractions, like amusement parks, museums, galleries, a world-class zoo, and the Calgary Central Library, which were just included in Time magazine’s 2019 list of the 100 best places in the world.
We’re also within an hour’s drive of the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park, and there are more than four ski resorts within a two-hour drive. There are also plenty of places to go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in and around Calgary.
- There are many resources available for Immigrants
More than 28 percent of our residents are newcomers to Canada, we have many resources and support services to help you settle into your new home. Find information on immigration, health care, urban commuting, education, weather, and more.
